Installer checklist
How to check a solar installer before you sign
This is not a ranking list. It is a practical way to compare installer quality, quote detail, and after-sales support using information you can ask for in writing.
Ask for proof
Credentials, licence, warranty, insurance, and local service process.
Compare like-for-like
Use the same size, battery assumption, and tariff assumptions.
Slow down pressure
A good installer should explain the quote, not rush the signature.
Quote quality checklist
If one quote is missing these items, ask for clarification before comparing price.
| Check | What to ask for |
|---|---|
| Credentials | Solar Accreditation Australia designer and installer credentials, electrical licence, insurance, and ABN. |
| Equipment detail | Panel, inverter, battery, optimiser, and mounting model numbers listed clearly. |
| Quote assumptions | System size, expected production, self-consumption, feed-in tariff, export limit, and STC value shown separately. |
| Warranty support | Product warranties, workmanship warranty, monitoring, and who handles service claims in Australia. |
| Installation scope | Switchboard work, meter work, roof access, roof penetrations, cable runs, and exclusions explained. |
| After-sales process | Clear contact path for faults, warranty claims, monitoring issues, and workmanship problems. |
Warning signs
- The quote only lists a system size and total price.
- The salesperson refuses to name panel or inverter models.
- Savings are promised without checking your bill, tariffs, or usage pattern.
- You are told a rebate disappears today without a source you can verify.
- Warranty help depends on an overseas-only support path.
- The cheapest quote excludes switchboard, meter, or network work without making that clear.
Good quote signs
The installer can explain why the system size suits your bill and roof.
The quote lists STCs, rebates, and any loans or VPP offers separately.
Warranty and workmanship support is clear and local.
The installer is comfortable with you comparing multiple quotes.

Installer checks should be confirmed directly with the installer, Solar Accreditation Australia, your state licensing body, and current warranty documents before signing.
